Dr. David A. Bull

Professor, University of Arizona College of Medicine

Academic / Professional Bio:

Dr. David Bull joined the University of Arizona – Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery on March 6, 2017 in the roles of professor and division chief.

In 1985, Dr. Bull received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed residencies in general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. He went on to complete fellowships in vascular surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Arizona and University of Utah, respectively. He joined the University of Utah School of Medicine faculty in 1994.

Dr. Bull was a member of the Thoracic Oncology Program, a joint effort between Huntsman Cancer Institute and the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. The program was developed to offer consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for all chest cancers. During his time at the University of Utah Health Science Center, he served as a professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the program director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program; and chief of cardiothoracic surgery at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center.

In his clinical practice, Dr. Bull specializes in heart, lung, and esophageal surgery, heart and lung transplantation, and the implantation of mechanical circulatory support devices, or “artificial” hearts. His clinical research interests include lung and esophageal cancer and gene therapy for heart disease and heart failure.

Dr. Youngwook Won

Associate Professor, University of Arizona College of Medicine

Dr. Youngwook Won joined the University of Arizona Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery on March 6, 2017, and is now an associate professor in the Department of Surgery. His focus is teaching and advising graduate students and establishing an extramurally-funded research program. With a history of published research in the fields of translational researches, his research focuses on the development of innovative strategies utilizing naturally derived materials to benefit human life.
